With the aim of continuously strengthening employees\u2019 knowledge and enhancing their understanding of international standards in the oil and gas transportation industry, on September 24\u201325, 2026, Phuong Nam Company (SPT) organized the \u201cTanker Operations & Chartering\u201d training course at the Company\u2019s office in Ho Chi Minh City.<\/em><\/p>\n

The course was directly delivered by Capt. James K.S. Lim, who has more than 40 years of experience in maritime operations, tanker operations and shipping, and previously served as a ship Captain. With extensive experience ranging from working on board vessels to shore-based operations, the trainer brought practical, relatable and highly applicable perspectives to the course.<\/p>\n

Participants included employees from the Operations, Safety & Legal, and Technical & Materials Departments. These departments play key roles and work closely together throughout the journey of each vessel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

On the first day, participants gained an overview of the tanker chartering market, including different types of charter parties and contracts, freight calculation, as well as how to identify market trends to make effective operational decisions. On the second day, the focus shifted to tanker operations, helping participants gain a clearer understanding of the role of an operator and how to manage a voyage throughout its entire journey, from preparation to completion.<\/p>\n

What stood out most after the two-day course was the classroom atmosphere. Rather than being simply theoretical sessions, each class became an open and engaging exchange between the trainer and participants. Participants actively raised questions based on their day-to-day work, while the trainer provided thoughtful answers through valuable stories and insights gained from many years in the industry.<\/p>\n

At the end of the course, the trainer shared an important message with the SPT team: chartering and operations are two inseparable parts of the same process, and every professional in the industry should continuously learn to build their knowledge, skills and experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
